Programs
Sin Puertas Staff uses a variety of approaches to help youths. These are called evidence-based practices, because research has proven that these approaches actually work, when delivered by trained and certified staff. What follows are descriptions of approaches used to help youths:
MET/CBT 5 or Motivational Enhancement Therapy/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
The MET/CBT-5 program provides five sessions of individual and group counseling. Two individual sessions are one-hour long, with the remaining three group sessions lasting 1.5 hours. Sessions are held weekly. Therapists leading the Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) sessions use Motivational Interviewing techniques to help youths identify factors that motivate them to become sober. During Cognitive Behavioral Therapy group sessions, youths learn behavior skills to support their recovery and to help them choose and keep friends, who support their sobriety.
A-CRA of Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach
A-CRA is a 12 week program that addresses substance abuse among adolescents. During the 12 weeks, there will be a combination of 10 individual sessions for each youth, two sessions for the parent/caregiver, and two family sessions, with both the youth and parent(s)/caregiver(s). The individual sessions help youths learn communication, problem-solving and anger management skills, aside from learning how to identify triggers to and patterns of substance use. The parent/caregiver sessions increases positive communication among all members of the family.
Intensive Cognitive Behavioral Program
The 24 group sessions focus on substance use issues and consequences of continued use. The sessions include communication skills building, drug abuse education, HIV/STD/Substance use education, understanding emotions and feelings, relapse prevention and recovery planning. Individual sessions are used to address each participant's unique circumstances. This group program meets three times weekly for eight weeks on each Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening from 5:00 - 7:45 p.m. A parent/guardian is required to attend on Tuesday evenings for family night. Dinner is served during group. Youths must also attend a minimum of four individual sessions with their assigned therapist in order to complete this program.
Female Trauma Group
Nuestra Voz is a 10 week program to address the needs of adolescent girls. This group encourages girls to seek and celebrate their "true selves" by giving them a safe space, encouragement, structure and support to address their issues related to trauma and substance use. The program uses a strength-based approach that helps girls to identify and apply their power and voices as individuals, and as a group. Girls meet three times weekly from 5:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings. Dinner is provided during group.

To that end, youths must live within 12 miles of Sin Puertas in order to participate in this program.
